The texture of Beijing is palpable. The dark gray stones of ancient hutong walls. Iridescent sugar on hawthorn berry skewers. Floral patterns on large quilt blankets. My time spent in my early childhood in Beijing, taking Chinese chess classes and cosplaying Monkey King in the park, make up a majority of my core memories.

Time itself in China had a texture of stillness. Quietly eating plain porridge at the dinner table with my grandparents. The white noise of Chinese news I couldn’t comprehend. The muffled traffic outside the 12th story window.

I’ve spent my career and most of my life trying to understand what that experience has meant to me. I’ve done it through films, through journalism, through songs and this is my most recent entry - through clothing.
